"They do not humiliate me, do not rape me": Ukranian journalist held in Slaviansk

April 21 - Separatists in Slaviansk parade female journalist in front of cameras who says she's been kidnapped, while they say she is being held as guest. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

She says she is being questioned but not mistreated. Ukrainian journalist Irma Krat is brought out by her separatists captors to speak to the press. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN JOURNALIST, IRMA KRAT, SAYING: "In principle, it's all right, a little cold, they're feeding me, giving me drink. They do not humiliate me, do not rape me. Sometimes they try to threaten me, but if there was anything at all, I would have told you." A member of the local militia holding her in separatist held Slaviansk says she is suspected of involvement in mistreating riot police and a Russian journalist (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UKRAINIAN JOURNALIST, IRMA KRAT, SAYING: "At the moment, we have no laws. In Ukraine right now, it's total anarchy." An unidentified man says she is not being held against her will at all. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) MASKED SEPARATIST, NO NAME GIVEN, SAYING: "We are not detaining Irma Krat, she's an invited guest here. Per an agreement, she wanted to come here herself, like, with us, to see how it feels to be a detainee." She is blindfolded and led into a building. Journalists are not the only ones who have been detained by armed men who took over public buildings in Slaviansk as part of a wider protest movement in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine. Also on Monday, separatists said they were releasing about a dozen Ukrainian servicemen taken prisoner saying they would be put on a train to return them to their families. The separatists are demanding a referendum that could lead to the area following Crimea into annexation by Moscow.
