A billboard stands high in Dallas. Pointing to what 9 in 10 Texans support - legalizing marijuana. Many would like to follow in the footsteps of nearby Colorado where marijuana shops here have proven popular, after that state legalized selling marijuana for recreational use. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UT DALLAS CRIMINOLOGY PROFESSOR, ROBERT MORRIS, SAYING: "We found no increase in the crime rate on the state level for states that passed legalizing marijuana for medicinal purposes." The professor, who published a study of his own, is responding to a confidential survey by liberal group Progress Texas. It shows that 93% support decriminalizing the drug. Of course, drug addiction becomes a concern. (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEXUS RECOVERY CENTER EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, BECCA CROWELL, SAYING: "Over and over again, we hear the stories about people smoking pot and drinking, (and that has to be a part of the conversation smoking pot and drinking alcohol,) before you know it, they're full blown addicts." Of the 2,000 people they treat each year, she says as many as three of four started with marijuana. So the debate rages on. With many Texans hoping to light the fire on marijuana laws.
