Shots are fired at the NYPD's Twitter page. Thousands of negative tweets like these were posted during a police public relations campaign. Ironically, to burnish its social media image and improve communication with New Yorkers. Instead of positive imagery, they received a slew of images depicting police brutality. The scathing tweets flew fast. By Wednesday morning, #mynypd was tweeted more than 94,000 times. After the campaign appeared to backfire, the department issued this two-sentence statement: WRITTEN STATEMENT BY NYPD, READING: "The NYPD is creating new ways to communicate effectively with the community. Twitter provides an open forum for an uncensored exchange and this is an open dialogue good for our city."
