April 28 - Powerful tornadoes rip through in Arkansas and Oklahoma, killing at least 17 people and wiping out entire neighborhoods. Vanessa Johnston reports.

At least 17 people are dead after tornadoes ripped through Arkansas and Oklahoma Sunday evening. Many more people were injured. Amid the rubble, rescue workers searched for survivors. SOUNDBITE (English) ARKANSAS RESIDENT, BRYANT PRUITT, SAYING: "It was just a huge black cloud. I could see stuff just boiling in it and I ran inside, and I couldn't tell you what it looked like after that." President Obama offered his condolences from the Philippines. SOUNDBITE (English) PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, BARACK OBAMA, SAYING: "I commend the heroic efforts of first responders and neighbors who rushed to help. I want everyone affected by this tragedy to know that FEMA and the federal government is on the ground and will help our fellow Americans in need, working with state local officials. And I want everybody to know that your country will be there to help you recover and rebuild as long as it takes." Sunday's death toll was the first reported fatalities of this year's tornado season. Tornadoes were also reported in parts of Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Missouri.
