Fast-moving California wildfire 10 percent contained

May 1 - A wind-driven brush fire that is burning in drought-parched Southern California wildland is 10 percent contained and mandatory evacuations that had affected over 1,600 homes have been lifted. Mana Rabiee reports.

A thousand-acre brush fire is burning in Southern California's San Bernardino National Forest. It's been fueled by strong wings, with gusts up to 80 miles an hour. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED MAN SAYING: "This treeline here is what I've been concerned about mostly because if it jumps the treeline then it's into the chaparral." Local media reported that more than 1,600 homes were under a mandatory evacuation order for a while on Wednesday, rattling the nerves of some residents. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED WOMAN SAYING "Right now we're just going to get out of here, it's not safe." As of Wednesday, one home had minor damage and two fire fighters sustained minor injuries. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED MAN SAYING "We have everything set aside, trucks facing out in the driveway, we're ready to go." UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING OFF CAMERA: "Price you pay for living near a wilderness." The fast-moving Etiwanda Fire was reportedly 10 percent contained by Thursday morning as winds decreased overnight. But fire crews continue to battle the blaze. The National Weather service warns of "critical" fire weather conditions on Thursday, as strong winds and dry air create extreme fire weather.
