May 2 - Protesters shouting ''anarchy lives'' clash with police in Seattle during a May Day protest that led to scuffles and at least nine arrests. Gavino Garay reports.

Clashes with police on the streets of Seattle. Hundreds of angry protesters, masked and in black, took to the streets of Seattle for a May Day march in support of a higher minimum wage and immigrant rights. (SOUNDBITE) UNIDENTIFIED PROTESTER SAYING: "Anarchy lives" Police used pepper spray to disperse the crowds on Thursday evening. Authorities say they recovered one gun and arrested nine people. Protester Robbie Abalos says he's standing up against the government. (SOUNDBITE) PROTESTER ROBBIE ABALOS SAYING: "I think these are good people in the global civil war, coming to unite together. If you look everywhere around the world you have people standing up against their government." Other protesters say the current system isn't working. (SOUNDBITE) UNIDENTIFIED PROTESTER SAYING: "I'm here because capitalism has produced inequality in our country. The current system -- they're deporting families, they're breaking apart families, they're mistreating migrant farmworkers..." Some unsuspecting drivers were caught in the middle of the commotion. (SOUNDBITE) UNIDENTIFIED MAN SITTING IN DRIVER'S SEAT OF CAR SAYING: "I was sitting in my car and it seemed like everyone thought everyone was allowed to beat the crap out of everyone's car." Web Chang of Belltown says violence isn't the answer. (SOUNDBITE) RESIDENT OF BELLTOWN WEB CHANG SAYING: "I think people know that once you start throwing stuff around, it's not good for your image as well as whatever cause you're wanting to do." The protest comes as Mayor Ed Murray announced earlier in the day a minimum wage increase to $15 per hour, that would be phased in over the next seven years.
