Commuter chaos near California's Ranchero Road overpass. A bridge burns... vehicles are stranded... some for four hours. (SOUNDBITE) (English) TRUCKER, CHARLES SANDERS, SAYING: "Thirty to 40 miles of traffic congestion!" It all started when a huge blaze broke out at a bridge construction site Monday evening. Officials say the wooden support structure was ignited by a blowtorch as crews worked to reinforce steel bars. This made for some frustrated drivers. Some of whom decided to just wait it out. (SOUNDBITE) (English) COMMUTER, MARY AGUIRRE, SAYING: "So now I'm stuck on the side of the road. I want to go back down the hill and go back to work." (SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED COMMUTER, SAYING: "I've never seen anything like it. Cars are turning around… it's a mess." The incident affected a major artery connecting Southern California with Las Vegas. The 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass is closed in both directions while the damage gets cleaned up.
