ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION STORY: U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Caroline Kennedy, released a video message on Friday (May 9) ahead of Mother's day in Japan and the United States looking back at her role models and calling on more to be done to help mothers balance work and family life. "My mother was a woman of tremendous courage and commitment and she worked hard to do her very best every day of her life, whether that was in raising her children or being First Lady or working as a book editor. And I feel so fortunate to have had such great role models and I hope that I have been able to pass some of the lessons they have taught me on to my children," Kennedy said in a video message filmed on Wednesday (May 7) but released ahead of Mother's day on Sunday (May 11). Many countries, including Japan and the U.S. celebrate Mother's day on the second Sunday of May. Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of Jacqueline Kennedy and the 35th President of the United States of America John F. Kennedy, became the first woman to be assigned to the post of U.S. Ambassador to Japan. In her video message, also posted on Youtube, Kennedy praised mother's as valuable assets in any company and called on more to be done to help them balance their work and family life. "It's so important for women to be able to contribute both to family life and to the economy in which they live. And I think all society benefits when women have full participation. I certainly know that if I want to hire somebody who is a manager, a compassionate leader, and knows how to be efficient gets things done, I would want a mother. But I think those skills all come with raising a family. I think society should do everything it can to make it possible for women to balance work and family because everyone will benefit," she said from the U.S. Ambassador's residence.
