May 11 - More than a thousand immigrants become American citizens at a naturalization ceremony in Texas, giving them the right to vote in the next presidential election. Vanessa Johnston reports.

More than a thousand immigrants become American citizens at this Texas naturalization ceremony. It's an emotional day for many as they now have the right to vote. SOUNDBITE (English) NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN, ABHAY KULKARNI, SAYING: "I'm going to exercise my right and I'm going to use my intelligence to pick the right people who can help the United States achieve what it's meant for." SOUNDBITE (English) NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN, NATHAN NEGASSI, SAYING: "I come from a country where you'll be arrested and imprisoned for your political views or if you support a certain political candidate." Adults aren't the only ones excited by the right to vote. SOUNDBITE (English) YOUNG NATURALIZED CITIZEN, GABRIEL PARRA, SAYING: "To me that's very important because then maybe we can build a better country. Then we can help other people." The attendees hailed from all over the world.
