You might recognise the sun, sea and sand on this part of the French Riviera. This year though it's Cannes - just maybe not as you know it. As the 67th International Film Festival prepares to welcome the world of cinema there's concern it won't be as glamorous as usual. Ramin Setoodeh is Senior Editor at movie industry magazine, Variety. SOUNDBITE: Variety Senior Editor, Ramin Setoodeh, saying (English): "The film industry like are other industries and businesses right now is hurting a little bit, you see Cannes scaling back. And you see it... for Cannes, for Cannes standards it's a little smaller than Cannes usually is." Stars like Nicole Kidman and Ryan Gosling are still expected to attend - the latter making his directorial debut. But the opening festival film "Grace of Monaco" is itself expected to prove controversial. The movie looks at the life of American actress Grace Kelly, who married Prince Rainier of Monaco and died after crashing her car in hills above the principality, not far to the east of Cannes, in 1982. Trade industry reports say the film's French director, Olivier Dahan, and producer Harvey Weinstein, who owns the American distribution rights, have been sparring over the final cut. Festival director Thierry Fremaux said that sort of fervor was part of the Cannes magic. SOUNDBITE: Cannes Film Festival Director Thierry Fremaux, saying (English): "Controversy by the way is also something which built Cannes and which make people focus on films. And these are not really really strong or -- how can I say -- in a way it's nice, it's part of the folklore of Cannes, it's part of the passion of cinema." The 67th Cannes International Film Festival kicks off on Wednesday May 14.
