New Hampshire home explodes during gunfight

May 13 - New Hampshire police investigate a shooting at a home and a massive explosion that left one police officer dead and the homeowner's son identified as the shooter. Mana Rabiee reports.

A massive house fire in New Hampshire has police searching for answers on Tuesday. Brentwood police say officer Stepehen Arkell responded to a domestic dispute call at this house around 4 pm local time on Monday. He was shot dead as he entered the home. SOUNDBITE: NEIGHBOR LAURA MILLER SAYING: "I heard three sets of gunshots sort of like bang bang bang. The shooter was identified as Michael Nolan, age 47, the homeowner's son. Another responding officer was driven out by more gunfire. SOUNDBITE: NEIGHBOR LAURA MILLER SAYING: "They're running around with assault rifles all behind all the houses, heard more gun." More officers arrived and a short time later the home was in flames. Then this... A huge explosion and that massive fire that quickly engulfed the entire the house. SOUNDBITE: NEIGHBOR DAMIEN BUSSIERE SAYING: "You could actually feel it from where I was standing. intense." SOUNDBITE: NEIGHBOR LAURA MILLER SAYING: "They came and put us into armored vehicle come right now. they were counting heads, told us to get out here." Firefighters were initially kept away from the scene for their safety. The Governor has ordered flags at half staff for the fallen officer. Fire marshals and the major crimes unit are investigating the scene to find out what exactly happened inside this home.
