A quirky twist to a common fundraiser. Hundreds of Colombians took part in Bogota's first Pet Run along with their furry friends.
Pooches stout and lean warmed up with their owners and set off on a five kilometer stretch to help raise money for animal rights charities.
Juan Felipe Franco was one of many enthusiastic runners.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) RUNNER JUAN FELIPE FRANCO SAYING:
"It is a good opportunity to share as a family with your pets and above all else, it's a way of demonstrating that you can live with pets in an adequate way."
Beyond charities, funds raised will also help pay for the construction of Bogota's first dog park and a shelter for abandoned pets - efforts Clara Rincon is glad to support.
(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) RUNNER CLARA RINCON SAYING:
"We came here because it is very important to take your dogs out, to see how many different types of breeds there are, to see how the dog owners have so much love for their pets, how they take care of them. This is very important."
Eight other events will be held to address the interests of the country's hounds with pet runs and veterinary clinics promoting awareness about neutering and vaccinations.
