And our dogs are not young dogs and they ran as they can with us and we couldn't wait then because all police said 'go go go, go'." Around 30 dogs are currently being cared for at the shelter. The dog shelter's owner, Vesna Pokopljevic, says many of the dogs are in a state of shock when they arrive. They are going into the corner, and then after a certain amount of time, they come to their senses. So they are traumatised, afraid, wet and hungry." All of the dogs are examined by the local vet for free and pictures and information about them are posted online, in the hope that the owners may see them. Pokopljevic said there has been a lot of success so far in reuniting the people with their four-legged friends. On Wednesday, Serbia started three days of national mourning as the death toll for the Balkan region exceeded 40. = Dog shelter works to reunite animals with owners after floods A dog shelter in Serbia helps to reunite pets with their owners after being separated by the country's severe flooding, which has killed at least 40 people across the Balkan region.
