An investigation is underway, after a protest here turned ugly. Hundreds took to the streets in Salinas, California to protest three deadly shootings by police this year. A few blocks away, police and paramedics were trying to help a gunshot victim. That's when the protest moved toward them and turned violent. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SALINAS DEPUTY CHIEF, TERRY GERHARDSTEIN, SAYING: "At some point, we had an officer begin CPR'ing the victim. And that officer was hit by a bottle that was thrown by someone within the crowd. That officer is being treated at a local hospital. I'm not going to disclose his injuries." The protest came on a heels of a third shooting on Tuesday. Salinas Police say two officers shot a man after being threatened with gardening shears. The two officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the incident is investigated. It's sparked outrage among the community. (SOUNDBITE) (English) SALINAS DEPUTY CHIEF, TERRY GERHARDSTEIN, SAYING: "The public has a right to demonstrate. And that's fine. That's the American way. But when it reaches a point where the police are coming in to help a victim and they receive bottles and damage to our cars, and then an officer gets hit in the head while he's trying to save a potential victim -- there's a problem there." The Police department says they are taking the three incidents seriously and will provide the public with answers.
