Neighbours of the 22-year-old suspect in Friday's California killing spree have spoken of their shock that he could have carried out such an attack. Elliot Rodger's the prime suspect in the shooting and stabbing of six people in Isla Vista before apparently killing himself. One neighbour, who didn't want to be identified, says Rodger seemed a solitary figure. (SOUNDBITE)(English) NEIGHBOUR OF ELLIOT RODGER WHO DID NOT WISH TO BE IDENTIFIED, SAYING: "I figured, come on, there has to be one person who knew him. There had to be one person who knew him, talked to him, like, has anything to add. One person like, maybe, to defend him or say I know what he was going through. Not a single person." Another neighbour said Rodger appeared to have problems in his personal life. (SOUNDBITE)(English) ANDY JANG, NEIGHBOUR OF ELLIOT RODGER, SAYING: "My friend Chris had a conversation with Elliot and apparently when he had a conversation regarding how girls reject him or what not he would always take Chris's side and agree that girls are not worth his time or something along the lines of that, and just had a really negative attitude towards girls." The father of one of the victims, Christopher Martinez, issued an emotional statement on behalf of the family. (SOUNDBITE)(English) RICHARD MARTINEZ, FATHER OF VICTIM CHRISTOPHER MARTINEZ, SAYING: "You don't think it'll happen to your child until it does. Chris was a really great kid, ask anyone who knew him. His death has left our family lost and broken. Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights. What about Chris's right to live?" Rodger's been described as severely mentally disturbed. The New York Times quoted his family's lawyer saying his parents had contacted police about a month ago because of concerns about videos he'd posted on the internet.
