May 27 - India's new prime minister meets his Pakistani counterpart on first full day in office. Katie Sargent reports.

EDITORS NOTE: CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 India's newly sworn-in Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a historic meeting with his Pakistani counterpart on Tuesday, raising hopes for a thaw in relation between the bitter rivals Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was among the south Asian leaders invited to Modi's inauguration on Monday. Sharif said India and Pakistan -- who have fought three wars since independence in 1947 -- now have a chance to improve their troubled relationship. Things have been particularly tense since the 2008 attack on Mumbai which India blames on Pakistan-based militants. Tuesday's meeting came on Modi's first full day as prime minister. He takes the reins of the world's largest democracy as it struggles with an economic slowdown and a severe job shortage. He had campaigned on a promise to fight bureaucratic sloth and fight corruption. He started the day by paying tribute to India's freedom movement leader Mahatma Gandhi before sitting down and getting to work.
