Teen rescued after spending 24 hours trapped on mountain

May 29 - A 19-year-old Canadian tourist is rescued after getting stranded for 24 hours in Colorado's Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 13,000 feet. Vanessa Johnston reports.

A Canadian hiker is lucky to be alive after getting stuck on a ledge in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. 19-year-old Samuel Frappier was stranded for 24 hours at about 13,000 feet. SOUNDBITE (English) RESCUED HIKER, SAMUEL FRAPPIER, SAYING: "If I slipped just one foot more, I would have fallen to my death." He and his friend had started hiking together but then got separated. SOUNDBITE (English) RESCUED HIKER, SAMUEL FRAPPIER, SAYING: "It was stupid and I'll never do it again." Luckily, Frappier did have a cell phone and was able to call for help. SOUNDBITE (English) ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK SPOKESWOMAN, KYLE PATTERSON, SAYING: "He did not have the equipment, nor was he prepared to spend the night, so we talked through that with him as far as things he could do -- tucking himself under rocks, things like that." The rescue took more than 24 hours and a team of nearly 30 people. Frappier has been released from the hospital and is headed home to Quebec.
