Brazil forces show World Cup might

May.31 - Military police come out in force to show they are ready to deal with any protests during the world cup should they arise. Natalie Thomas reports.

Military Police in Rio de Janeiro were out in force on Friday putting on a display to show they are ready if protests get out of hand during the world cup. Rio and the 11 other cities that will host World Cup matches are ratcheting up security measures as they prepare for the possibility of violent protests during the month-long tournament which kicks off on June 12. With less than two weeks to go there've already been strikes and demonstrations. Rio was one of the focal points of last year's mass demonstrations that coincided with the warm-up Confederations Cup. Several of those turned violent with groups of protesters clashing with police and hurling Molotov cocktails while police fired back with tear gas and shock bombs. Police are hoping to contain any outbreaks of violence this time around
