June 4 - Chinese security personnel on heightened alert in Tiananmen Square on the 25th anniversary of the Beijing massacre, as memorials are held in Hong Kong. Sarah Toms reports.

This drive by is the closest cameras can get to Tiananmen Square. It's the 25th anniversary of the Beijing massacre and Chinese security are swamping the area. It was a different story in 1989 when thousands of protesters, who were gathered there were removed by force on June 4th and hundreds were killed in these nearby streets. Today, the government has done its utmost to snuff out any mention of the crackdown. Dozens of activists have been detained to ensure their silence on the anniversary. (SOUNDBITE) (Mandarin) UNIVERSITY STUDENT TIAN RUI, SAYING: "Uh, no...I don't know. Well...How do you put it? Sorry, I can't take this interview." But here in Hong Kong the Tiananmen Square anniversary makes headlines. The former British colony still has a high degree of autonomy. . (SOUNDBITE) (English) HONG KONG FEDERATION OF STUDENTS, TREASURER, RENZ TSE, SAYING: "We understand the importance of fighting for the democracy of the China. Two large cardboard tanks have been erected downtown to mark the crackdown. And late on Wednesday, thousands are expected to take part in a Tiananmen remembrance rally.
