It's the height of gastronomic opulence - a rich, buttery lobster roll dotted with caviar and gold leaf. And it's yours for a mere $160 U.S. dollars. The man behind the decadent dish is Luke Venner, executive chef at Manhattan restaurant "BLT Fish," who says he wanted to do something novel and fun. The key ingredient is Maine lobster - a lot of it! SOUNDBITE: Luke Venner, executive chef, "BLT Fish", saying: "It's a full one and three quarter pound lobster. It's served on a warm kind of challah roll which is a very yeasty, buttery roll and then we top it with osetra caviar and chives and serve it with little potato chips that we make in-house." But the piece de resistance is Venner's food accessory of choice; edible gold leaf. The chef says you won't find this dish on the menu - customers have heard about it by word-of-mouth SOUNDBITE: Luke Venner, executive chef, "BLT Fish", saying: "We don't approach a table and say, 'Oh, our special this evening is $160 lobster roll'. Often called the restaurant capital of the world, New York has a lot of picky diners with thousands of eateries to choose from. What do they think about this pricey creation? SOUNDBITE: Mr. Armstrong, saying (English): "I think it's a rip-off. It's just taking people for mugs; I mean what are you putting gold in food for? It's ridiculous." SOUNDBITE: Rachel Neifeld, saying (English): "Maybe if I was with like 10 friends and we split the price." Not a bad idea - chef Venner says he's not opposed to the idea of a few people sharing a lobster roll. Bon Appetit!
