America's dream of a Triple Crown win was dashed on Saturday. Fans of California Chrome looked on in disappointment, as Tonalist left the brown colt in his dust. At one and a half miles, the Belmont Stakes is said to be the longest and most grueling course of the Triple Crown series. And having missed the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness this year, Tonalist showed the benefits of being fresh. On the flipside, California Chrome was at a disadvantage. (SOUNDBITE) (English) FAN JOHN SULLIVAN, SAYING: "Horses in America right now are bred for shorter distances for speed, not so much for the distance. Stamina just isn't there anymore." His chances of winning were hampered at the start when he jumped out sideways and clipped the horse next to him. In the end, he placed fourth. Leaving a bitter taste for race fans across the country.
