June 10 - A shooting at an Oregon high school leaves one student and a suspected gunman dead. Vanessa Johnston reports.

Parents anxiously await to be reunited with their children after a school shooting in Oregon Tuesday. One student and the suspected gunman are dead. Many parents first heard about the shooting at Reynolds High School in Troutdale via text message from their kids. SOUNDBITE (English) UNIDENTIFIED PARENT SAYING: "He texted me on Facebook and let me know what was going on and I got up here as fast as I could." Students were seen streaming out of the school with their hands raised. Police officers in helmets and tactical gear ran around the school with long rifles. SOUNDBITE (English) TROUTDALE POLICE CHIEF SCOTT ANDERSON SAYING: "A gunman entered the school this morning, shot one student. Unfortunately that student has died. The gunman was located and the gunman is also deceased." This student said he witnessed two gunmen. SOUNDBITE (English) STUDENT NAMED TATE SAYING: "We were all going in for final seventh period and we just heard final gunshots and everyone was freaking out, and we all ran into the weight room, and we just hid and locked all the doors. And there were just a bunch of gunshots everywhere." No other information was immediately available. Linda Florence is the Reynolds School District Superintendent. SOUNDBITE (English) REYNOLDS SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT LINDA FLORENCE SAYING: "This is a very tragic day, one that I had hoped would never, never be part of my experience." The violence in Oregon was the latest in a string of U.S. shootings in recent weeks, including one in neighboring Washington state.
