Rwandan troops kill five Congolese soldiers during clashes along the border between the two countries.
(SOUNDBITE) (Kinyarwanda) MAYOR OF RUBAVU, BEHAME HASSAN, SAYING:
"These attacks are common with Congolese soldiers. They normally come and take our animals with them, but this time they attacked the army. They fought for hours and the result of the fighting is what you see here with dead Congolese soldiers on the hills."
Residents say the Congolese soldiers tried to steal cows.
(SOUNDBITE) (Kinyarwanda) RUBAVU RESIDENT, BYUMVUHORE SETH, SAYING:
"The Congolese soldiers came to loot our livestock. We called for help, and our plea was answered by the Rwandan soldiers. The Congolese soldiers opened fire and that's how the fighting started. I was lucky the cows they took from me were returned. But a few days ago Congolese soldiers forcefully took more than 10 cows from me."
Rwandan troops have backed Congolese rebels during two wars in Congo before they officially withdrew in 2003. Since then, Kinshasa has repeatedly accused Kigali of backing Congolese rebels.
