PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS MATERIAL THAT WAS ORIGINALLY 4:3 These three men have been sentenced to death over a fatal car crash in China's capital last October. They were convicted at a court of organising and leading a terror group and using dangerous methods to endanger public security. One woman was given a life sentence, while four others received jail terms ranging from five to 20 years. During proceedings at the court in Xinjiang province, video was played of a car ploughing into tourists at Tiananmen Square before catching fire. Five people were killed and 40 others wounded in last year's attack. Three people who were in the car also died. Firearms and other weapons were also displayed during the public trial. The Chinese authorities said it was an attack by Islamist militants. All of the people sentenced here on Monday appear to have ethnic Uighur names. Uighurs have been blamed this year for a string of attacks around China. The Chinese authorities say they are coordinating a campaign of terror but human rights activists accuse the government of repression.
