EDITORS PLEASE NOTE: THIS EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL You've heard of man's best friend. Well this is the story of a dog's best friend. One day Shaleen Mathur came across this rust-colored pooch, whose back legs were maimed. When no one wanted the handicapped dog, the Kerala-based lawyer adopted him, determined to design a wheelchair so he could walk. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PET LOVER, SHALEEN MATHUR, SAYING: "I searched images for handicapped dog wheel cart or wheelchair. Once I saw the images, I copied them on a CD and took them to the photo studio and got photos developed. I then went from person to person who ran industries like iron welding." Finally Mathur found a place that could craft a cart that would get the dog moving once again. But the devoted pet lover isn't done. He's hoping to improve upon the first design. (SOUNDBITE) (English) PET LOVER, SHALEEN MATHUR, SAYING: "I don't feel it's a perfect wheelchair for my dog. Once I am able to earn some more money, I will try to provide this handicapped dog a better wheelchair." There are millions of stray dogs on India's streets, many who become victims to road accidents. Happily this mutt is one of the lucky ones.
