Nicole Kidman was among a sparkling array of stars at the opening of the Shanghai International Film Festival on Saturday, June 14.
The Australian Oscar-winning actress' latest movie "Grace of Monaco" opens in China on June 20.
The movie, which sets out to debunk the fairytale marriage of Hollywood star Grace Kelly to Prince Rainier of Monaco, has bombed at the box office since opening at Cannes last month.
The film's producers are hoping Chinese audiences will be kinder where the story of Kelly's transition from 50's screen idol to European princess is relatively unknown.
Hugh Grant is also in town to promote his new movie "The Rewrite", which made its world-wide debut at the festival on Sunday.
The debonair English actor, who's best known for "Notting Hill" and "About a Boy" is on familiar territory, playing a washed-up Oscar-winning writer who falls for a single mum after leaving tinseltown for teaching on the East Coast.
SOUNDBITE British Actor Hugh Grant saying, (English):
"Well, it's not an exactly a romantic comedy. There is some romance and certainly there's some comedy. But it's, I would say it is closer to the film that I did once called 'About a Boy', in a sense, it's really about a man who seems to be completely lost in life, broken, and who discovers kind of a new life."
Chinese actress Gong Li, who appeared in "Red Sorghum" and the Oscar-nominated "Raise the Red Lantern" becomes the first female President of the 7-member judging panel.
The jury will decide the winner of the coverted "Golden Goblet" from this year's shortlist of 15 films, whittled down from more than a record-breaking 1,800 submissions.
Grant and Chinese director John Woo presented Kidman with the Outstanding Contribution Award at the opening ceremony.
The Shanghai International Film Festival runs until June 22.
