Hollywood actress Gemma Arterton is swapping the big screen for musical theatre in an adaptation of the 2010 movie 'Made in Dagenham' about the 1968 strike by women demanding equal pay. London's West End has seen a spate of big name musicals, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Stephen Ward' and Tim Rice's 'From Here to Eternity' close after short runs. However, Arterton believes that 'Made in Dagenham' has something the others didn't have. SOUNDBITE Actress, Gemma Arterton, saying (English) "It's just one of those stories that you can't help but be moved by it. That's something that I felt when I watched the film. It makes you want to get up on your feet, it makes you want to sing, it makes you want to... (sharp intake of breath). So, I think that now that we're allowed to do that in musical theatre form hopefully it will just get people really excited." The former Bond girl had to be coerced into doing the production as to date, she hasn't unleashed her singing voice on the public. SOUNDBITE Actress, Gemma Arterton, saying (English) "I mean I only sing in karaoke when I'm really drunk so I was like, am I going to be able to do this? And they said just do it so I did a couple of workshops and then, and then I just fell in love with the whole project." Although the press launch happened on June 17th, the musical is not due to open until October 9th. SOUNDBITE Actress, Gemma Arterton, saying (English) "It is starting to happen. Actually, today was a real milestone for me. I've been attached for two and a half years and today's the first time we've shown it on a stage and I did sit there and go 'ooh' with some of the other actresses who've been in it as long as me and gone 'Oh my god, it's actually happening.'" 'Made in Dagenham' will be playing at the Adelphi Theatre on London's Strand.
