Costa Ricans celebrate historic win

Thousands of football fans in Costa Rica celebrate their football team's victory in the World Cup in Brazil and its qualification for the quarter finals. Sarah Toms reports.

Another dramatic win in Brazil. Costa Rica beats Greece 5-3 in a penalty shootout in the World Cup. Jubilant Costa Rican fans in Brazil celebrate their national football team's victory. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) COSTA RICA FAN, CARLOS, SAYING: "We are so happy, we have a great future ahead of us, we have players who will no longer just play in Costa Rica and can join other leagues and we hope that Costa Rican football will get better every day because we are always... we fight for a good position which FIFA does not recognise and we don't steal from the referees like all the other Latin Americans, Mexico and the rest of the world." The win puts the Central American nation into the quarter-finals for the first time in history. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) COSTA RICA FAN, JULIAN VILLALOBOS, SAYING: "This triumph is something historical, never seen before. We are are very pleased. It's a party in the country and we are all together going against Netherlands - Long live Costa Rica! The streets of the Costa Rican capital were also packed with ecstatic fans, who watched the match on large screens. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) FABIO CORRALES, SOCCER FAN, SAYING: "With the ones God gave us. Great selection! Let's go team. Yes, we can! Let's go as far as we can!" Next Costa Rica will play the Netherlands but for now fans are expected to continue celebrations through the night.
