A Nevada rancher says his goats are the best kept secret in fire defense, renting them out to eat through vegetation and reducing fuel for fire around homes. Mana Rabiee reports.

Meet the best kept secret in fire defense... Sure, it's low tech but Reno rancher Vince Thomas says these goats can REALLY eat their way through Nevada brush; Dry weeds and vegetation that could otherwise become fuel for summer wildfires. SOUNDBITE: VINCE THOMAS, OWNER OF GOAT GRAZERS, SAYING: "They do an excellent job, excellent job." Thomas is owner of 'Goat Grazers'. His goats are for rent for anyone who wants an easier, cheaper way to clear away dry vegetation from their property. SOUNDBITE: VINCE THOMAS, OWNER OF GOAT GRAZERS, SAYING: "When my kids were raising different animals for 4-H. When they switched to goats, I realized that I did not need to go out and burn on my property." The goats devoured the weeds and small trees in this irrigation ditch behind a condo development. SOUNDBITE: ANNE CARRICO, SIERRA LOMA HOA, SAYING: "Goats eat everything. So when this was mentioned, we thought this was a very good idea." SOUNDBITE: VINCE THOMAS, OWNER OF GOAT GRAZERS, SAYING: "They do have their favorite foods that they like, but they pretty much go around, they pick at everything." Eating everything and reducing fuel for fires just in time for wildfire season.
