ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) U.S. President Barack Obama visited the patriotically named Washington start-up hub 1776 on Thursday (July 3), a day before America's Independence Day holiday. Obama was greeted warmly by the young employees at 1776, which pairs start-ups dealing with issues like education, energy, health care, and government with assets in the nation's capital. Obama focused on the new jobs report that showed U.S. unemployment hitting a near six-year low, and said the incubator was the best place to visit on the eve of Independence Day. "We just got a jobs report today showing that we've now seen the fastest job growth in the United States in the first half of the year since 1999. So this is also the first time we've seen five consecutive months of job growth over 200,000 since 1999. And we've seen the quickest drop in unemployment in 30 years," Obama said. But, Obama also said that things could be even better if Washington officials focused solely on the American people, the economy, and put their partisan differences aside. "We can make even more progress if Congress is willing to work with my administration and to set politics aside, at least occasionally which I know is what the American people are urgently looking for. It's a sort of economic patriotism," he said.
