The trial over the $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers got off to a rocky start Monday as team co-owner Donald Sterling was a no-show in court. The attorney for Sterling's estranged wife, Shelly Sterling, called the 80-year-old real estate billionaire as the first witness in the trial, but he was no where to be found. Attorney Bert Fields. SOUNDBITE: Bert Fields, saying (English): "We were very anxious to get Mr. Sterling here to face the music, I mean, he's the guy who keeps delaying, keeps doing anything he can to keep his family from getting the $2 billion dollars that they are entitled to, why? Just because of his ego." Donald Sterling's attorney Bobby Samini fired back with insight as to why he may be dragging his feet on the sale. SOUNDBITE: Bobby Samini, saying (English): "He does not want to sell the team. Now, I'm not going to beat around the bush, I understand that his opinion, his comments, the things that he's done that he's made public are not popular, and we're not running from that, he's unequivocally apologized on two occasions for those comments and for his conduct, but what always brings out for me is that Donald is being treated differently." Sterling's no-show came after a federal judge rejected his attorneys' last-minute request that the trial be moved to federal court. Donald Sterling's doctors have said that he has Alzheimer's disease. He has accused his wife of violating his privacy rights by releasing his medical records. Donald Sterling was banned for life by the NBA in April for racist remarks he made privately that were taped and published during the Clippers' playoff run.
