Twenty-six-year-old Alix Tichelman appeared in court on Wednesday. The alleged high-end prostitute, wearing a red jumpsuit, was assigned a public defender in her first court appearance since her arrest. Tichelman is accused of murdering a Google executive by injecting him with heroin aboard his yacht in a Santa Cruz harbor last November. Police say security camera footage from the yacht showed Tichelman failing to help the victim. SOUNDBITE: SANTA CRUZ POLICE CHIEF STEVE CLARK, SAYING: "It showed our suspect, it showed our victim, it showed her injecting him with heroin, showed her absolute callousness, after the fact, as he starts to have medical complications. There was no effort to call 911." Police say at one point, Tichelman stepped over the victim's body to finish a glass of wine. Investigators describe Tichelman as a high-priced prostitute with more than 200 clients. And police say this isn't the first time she met the victim, a married father with five children who worked at Google and Apple. SOUNDBITE: SANTA CRUZ POLICE CHIEF STEVE CLARK, SAYING: "We know they've had a previous relationship. They've shared time together before. This was all set up through text messages and emails. We also know what she did in the aftermath of this. We have her computer records. We know the Google searches that she made, the things she did to try to get herself out of this." Police arrested Tichelman on Friday during a sting operation. Detectives are investigating another case with similar circumstances involving Tichelman in a different state.
