Four new African lion cubs were born to Tajiri, the Philadelphia Zoo's 4-year-old lioness. They are the first lion cubs born at this zoo since 1996. At this point, lion cubs are rather helpless and rely on their mother for care and constant physical contact and zoo officials say Tajiri is proving to be a confident and relaxed first time mother. The cubs won't be debuted to the public for at least three months when Tajiri and her babies feel ready to head outside of their home. The Philadelphia Zoo says the lion cub births are a great success of their breeding program, which is aimed at managing populations of threatened and endangered animals.
