Mother arrested for abandoning baby in New York City subway

A mother faces charges of child abandonment after allegedly leaving her baby on a New York City subway platform. Nathan Frandino reports.

No explanations from the woman who police said abandoned her 7-month-old toddler on a New York City subway platform. Police said it was here at the Columbus Circle station where Frankea Dabbs was seen pushing her baby's stroller off the 1 train and leaving it. New York City commuters are shocked. (SOUNDBITE) (English) IRENE KESTANUK, UPPER EAST SIDE, SAYING: "Thank God the child wasn't pushed into the tracks. Thank God for that." (SOUNDBITE) (English) LINDA WEMANGONDO, COMMUTER, SAYING: "Anything could have happened to her. Someone could have kidnapped the baby. Anything." Now 20-year-old Dabbs is facing charges of child abandonment and endangering the welfare of a child. A police spokesman said Dabbs said she could not take care of the baby anymore. The toddler is now in the custody of the city's Administration for Children's Services.
