ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) On his first stop of a three-day trip out of Washington, U.S. Barack Obama touted economic gains during a speech in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday (July 9). Obama, who told the audience that he dined with a small group of local residents the night before, emphasized that despite the politics and "partisan gridlock" of Washington, he would fight for the millions of hard working Americans and hinted at employing executive orders if needed. "So far this year, Republicans in Congress have blocked or voted down every serious idea to strengthen the middle class. They've said 'no' to raising the minimum wage. They said 'no' to fair pay legislation so that women are getting paid the same as men for doing the same work. They said 'no' to unemployment insurance for Americans who are out there looking for a new job... Congress just said 'no' to fixing our broken immigration system in a way that strengthens our borders and our businesses... There's a coalition around immigration reform that's unprecedented. These guys still can't get their act together," Obama said to a crowd gathered in the state's Cheesman Park. Obama will also travel to Texas. The trip mostly is aimed at raising money for Democratic candidates in the November Congressional elections. But on Wednesday, he will meet in Dallas with Texas Governor Rick Perry, a Republican who has been sharply critical of Obama's handling of the crisis involving tens of thousands of unaccompanied children who have crossed into Texas from the border with Mexico.
