ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Youthful duo Ralph & Russo offered up a collection that was pure couture on Thursday (July 10) as dramatic ball gowns and delicate embroidery brought Paris Fashion Week to a close. The house -- which counts Beyonce and Angelina Jolie amongst its devotees -- created a media buzz earlier this year when it became the first British label in recent history permitted to show at the French capital's prestigious Haute Couture week. Now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Chanel and Valentino, the pair produced a collection whose attention to detail in silks, satins and crystals proved their worth. An off-the-shoulder dress in ice-blue silk studded with crystals and pearls opened the show -- one of many which gave a respectful nod to the 1950s and the history of couture. Embroidery was everywhere, and floor-length silk gowns in regal colours gave a majestic feel to the runway which was lined with marble columns. The London-based house is headed up by an Australian couple, Creative Director Tamara Ralph and Chief Executive Officer Michael Russo, who told Reuters TV after the show that for their return trip to Paris they had intended to go bigger and bolder. Ralph said her inspiration had been photographer Massimo Listri whose subjects included renowned interiors, saying she was dressing her models for soirees spent in opulent mansions.
