Severe thunderstorms slam Northeast

Heavy downpours cause flash flooding through much of the Northeast. Linda So reports.

The rain came down hard and fast in New York City, flooding streets in an instant. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED NEW YORK RESIDENT, SAYING: "It's a horrendous feeling, especially when the car fills up with water." Firefighters had to rescue many stranded drivers caught in the rising waters. Severe thunderstorms in much of the Northeast dumped inches of rain. SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED NEW YORK RESIDENT, SAYING: "I couldn't see anything and the wave hit my car and I got stuck and firefighters came to rescue me, thank God. After that all the car just kept hitting us from when they were pulling through. Their waves were hitting us and moving us. It kind of actually helped because it put us on the curb and lifted us out of the water a little bit." The strong storms brought down trees and power lines. And in Pennsylvania, a teen was struck by lightning as he was getting into a car.
