Uber's popularity sends cabbies to enroll in Customer Service 101

The growing popularity of rideshares like Uber-X is motivating taxi cab drivers to enroll in customer service classes. Mana Rabiee reports.

Ask taxi patrons why they're switching over to services like Uber-X, and they'll likely tell you.... SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED MAN SAYING: "It's more about the customer service than even the money" Too many riders are just too unhappy with taxi cab customer service. In Seattle, for example, a local TV news survey found nearly 470 complaints against the city's taxis last year. Uber's growing popularity, and all those complaints, sent more than a100 cabbies in Seattle to this four-hour class on customer service. SOUNDBITE: CABBIE PAUL CHEEMA SAYING: "They talk about how you connect with a customer. Cabbie Paul Cheema says the cab drivers are trying to change their image. REPORTER OFF CAMERA ASKS: "Is this about competing Uber and even beating them with customer service? SOUNDBITE: CABBIE PAUL CHEEMA SAYING: Yes, and along with many others out there." NATS CLASS In just the four years since its launch, Uber is valued at over 18 billion dollars. So will these classes give the cabbies a competing edge? SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED CUSTOMER SAYING: "I would definitely try taxis again." SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED CUSTOMER SAYING: "I'm going to give them six months-- it's a steep learning curve."
