They came to protest the arrest of a Pulitzer prize-winning journalist. Jose Antonio Vargas, an undocumented immigrant and prominent activist. He was detained Tuesday after being stopped at an airport security checkpoint here in the border city of McAllen, Texas, where he was shooting a documentary film about the current border crisis. SOUNDBITE: EVELYN ESCAMILLA, VARGAS' COLLEAGUE, SAYING "The minute we saw the TSA agents come and take his passport away we knew it wasn't going to be good." But they were ALSO protesting what other illegal immigrants in the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas go through. They say they're 'trapped' between the Rio Grande and Border Patrol checkpoints in the area. And live in constant fear of being caught. SOUNDBITE: TANIA CHAVEZ, MINORITY AFFAIRS COUNCIL ORGANIZER, SAYING: "We are trapped in this cage. We are trapped here and its time that we are free." Activist Tania Chavez came to the U.S. from Mexico 14 years ago and has earned two masters degrees. But she's undocumented and says she can't leave the Rio Grande. SOUNDBITE: TANIA CHAVEZ, MINORITY AFFAIRS COUNCIL ORGANIZER, SAYING: "Now the nation is going to know that we are trapped but it took Jose Antonio to come to the valley," Vargas was released after a few hours. Protesters want executive action to change immigration law. They're determined to stay. TANIA CHAVEZ, MINORITY AFFAIRS COUNCIL ORGANIZER, SAYING: "Despite what the government says, this is our home and we are fighting to stay in our home."
