Fifteen-year-old Tariq Khdeir came to a big homecoming in Tampa Wednesday. The Florida teen, an American of Palestinian descent, was allegedly beaten by Israeli police. The beating, captured on video that went viral, re-ignited debate around the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. SOUNDBITE: TARIQ KHDEIR, FREED TEEN, SAYING: "Hello everybody, thank you so much for coming out tonight to welcome me home. It feels so good to be back in Tampa. I cant even put it in words. I can't wait to play with my friends and go fishing." Tariq's beating came on the heels of his Palestinian cousin's killing allegedly by Israeli extremists. THAT killing was in revenge for the deaths of three Israeli teens earlier. Tariq called his attack by masked men the 'scariest' experience of his life. He thanked his well-wishers and the people who prayed for his safe return. But he added, the world only knew his story because he was an American citizen. Don't forget my cousin, he said. SOUNDBITE: TARIQ KHDEIR, FREED TEEN, SAYING: "He was just a kid like me and this whole thing started because he was killed. I know he must have been terrified like I was." The Maryland-born teenager says he's eager to get medical attention following his beating. And eager to put the traumatic experience of his summer vacation well behind him.
