The wreckage still smolders. White flags mark where bodies lay. Investigators comb through miles of rebel-held territory in Eastern Ukraine, looking for answers after a Malaysian airlines jet was tragically shot down. World leaders are demanding justice. Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk says an international investigation needs to start right away. (SOUNDBITE) (English) UKRAINIAN PRIME MINISTER, ARSENY YATSENIUK, SAYING: "We ask all respective governments to participate in this investigation and to support the Ukrainian government to bring to justice all these bastards who committed this international crime. This is the crime against humanity, all red lines have been already crossed. This is the deadline." Two U.S. officials said Washington strongly believed the plane was downed by a sophisticated surface-to-air missile fired by Ukrainian separatists backed by Moscow. All 298 people on board died. Grief-stricken family members are waiting for information as they gather at a Malaysian airport. German Chancellor Angela Merkel is echoing the demand for answers. (SOUNDBITE) (German) GERMAN CHANCELLOR, ANGELA MERKEL, SAYING: "We need to start an independent investigation as quickly as possible. A ceasefire is needed for that and it's important that those responsible are brought to justice. There are many indications that the plane was shot down so we have to take things very seriously." The scale of the disaster could prove to be a turning point for international pressure in resolving Ukraine's crisis. A crisis that has already killed hundreds this year.
