Grandfather of American plane crash victim speaks out

American plane crash victim's grandfather recalls moment he received the bad news. Linda So reports.

It's a tragedy that gripped the entire world and for Ronald Schansman, the pain has hit home. His grandson Quinn was the only American killed in the Malaysia Airlines plane crash. SOUNDBITE: RONALD SCHANSMAN, VICTIM'S GRANDFATHER, SAYING: "As a grandparent you just hope that none of the children or grandchildren will go before you and now it has happened." Ronald's grandson Quinn was born in New Jersey to Dutch parents. He recalls the moment he got the heartbreaking call from Quinn's father. SOUNDBITE: RONALD SCHANSMAN, VICTIM'S GRANDFATHER, SAYING: "He told me Quinn was on this flight, one of his sons, terrible news of course." All 298 victims were killed when the Malaysian Airlines flight was shot down by a surface-to-air missile over Eastern Ukraine. SOUNDBITE: RONALD SCHANSMAN, VICTIM'S GRANDFATHER, SAYING: "It's so useless it's so senseless what happened... you realize there is also fate that you cannot escape...pure fate." Ukraine is pointing the finger at pro-Russian rebels for the attack that senselessly took the lives of so many.
