Tributes for victims of Ukraine crash

Communities round the world commemorate the victims of MH17, as unions say cabin crews at Malaysia airlines are demoralised after a second crash this year. Sarah Toms reports.

Tributes and prayers for the victims of the Malaysia airliner that was shot down over east Ukraine. Here in Australia, Prime Minister Tony Abbott joined mourners to commemorate the 298 people who died. Many were Australian citizens and residents. (SOUNDBITE) (English) AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER TONY ABBOTT SAYING: "This is not the national commemorative service obviously that will take place in a couple of weeks time when the families and the loved ones of those who are dead have had more time to come to terms with their grief. Then we will come together as a nation in sorrow and in solidarity, nevertheless I think it is important at a time like this to indicate that we are grieving with and praying for all of those who have been impacted by this dreadful, dreadful event." The victims came from 11 countries and their deaths are felt across the world. In Malaysia, a candle-lit vigil was held in remembrance of flight MH17. It's the second time this year that a Malaysia Airlines has lost a plane. The National Union of Flight Attendants said cabin crews are demoralised after 21 of their colleagues died in the two crashes. SOUNDBITE) (English) CHAIRMAN OF NATIONAL UNION OF FLIGHT ATTENDANTS MALAYSIA, ISMAIL NASARUDDIN SAYING: "They are just remorse and feelings which we shared. And they have shared with us also at the same time that their sadness yesterday. And some of them are seen crying while going to work, and this is something which I believe… yeah it all depends on each and everyone, how strong they are to accept this kind of situation." In March, another jet -- Flight MH370 -- mysteriously disappeared with passengers and crew on board. Few people here could believe that another tragedy could happen in just over four months.
