ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Citizens of the Netherlands have experienced grief, sadness, anger and despair all since Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine last week, killing all 298 aboard, including , the country's foreign minister said Monday (July 21). Speaking to journalists at the Dutch UN Mission in New York, Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans said the tragedy has been worsened by the geopolitical conflict in the region. "The tragedy of the loss of life, 300 people, almost 200 of my compatriots, has had a huge impact on Dutch society," Timmermans said. "An impact greater when we encountered so much difficulties in trying to secure the site of the tragedy and recover the remains." The plane was shot down last Thursday (July 17). The United States and its allies have blamed the pro-Russian rebels for downing of the plane while Russia's defense ministry challenged those accusations and said Ukrainian warplanes had flown close to it. Timmermans demanded an investigation to uncover the truth and that his country would not rest until it is seen through. "But I also want to tell you that we are a nation united in the wish to bring our loved ones back home and also in the wish to investigate what has happened and then to hold those responsible accountable. The Netherlands will not rest until justice is done," Timmermans said. The U.N. Security Council is scheduled to vote on Monday on a resolution that would condemn the downing of the plane, and demand that those responsible be held accountable and that armed groups not compromise the integrity of the crash site.
