Their glassy eyes can be creepy enough.
But for the past week, these dolls have had some San Clemente residents on edge.
SOUNDBITE: DEBBIE CALL, NEIGHBOR, SAYING:
"We're a little concerned. It's creepy."
Someone was leaving these porcelain dolls on the doorsteps of homes where little girls lived.
Residents told police the dolls had an eery resemblance to their children.
Parents, like this mom who didn't want to be identified, worried -- is this just a prank, or something more sinister?
SOUNDBITE: UNIDENTIFIED CONCERNED PARENT SAYING:
"We're very unsettled and obviously taking this very seriously as it concerns our daughters and little girls."
Neighbors were warned to be on alert.
SOUNDBITE: HEIDI COLBURN, NEIGHBOR, SAYING:
"It leaves an impression on your kid. Can you imagine your daughter getting that? It would freak me out too."
But as it turns out, police say, there is no cause for alarm.
After a brief investigation, they say a well-meaning woman who attends church with the families left the dolls as a kind gesture.
The case is considered closed,...although the same can't be said for the glassy eyes of the dolls that caused all the fuss.
