Cries of protest ring out across Europe Saturday, as the death toll in the 19-day conflict between Israel and Hamas militants surpasses one thousand.
In Paris, riot police are deployed as pro-Palestinian demonstrators defy a ban by French authorities.
At least one Israeli flag is burned.
In Frankfurt, hundreds gather in the central square.
One placard reads "Child Murderer Israel". A second reads, "Israel Bombards, Merkel Pays".
(SOUNDBITE) (German) PRO-PALESTINIAN DEMONSTRATOR, RADIR DASAN, SAYING:
"I am here to show that this massacre finally has to come to an end after 66 years. I would also like to make it very clear that we are not against Judaism but against Zionism. We know of course that not all Israelis agree with what is happening. We are here because we support human rights and because we finally want peace."
And in Geneva, Switzerland, some protesters carry a mock coffin with the names and photos of young Palestinians killed by Israeli shelling.
Others chant, "We are all Palestinian".
(SOUNDBITE) (French) MEMBER OF EMERGENCY PALESTINE COLLECTIVE FROM LAUSANNE, PASCALINE FAHY, SAYING:
"It really shocks me and touches me to see all the people who are deprived of everything, seeing their houses being destroyed. When we say we are all Palestinian, it is really because it concerns the whole humanity, and we have to react. To see these images, it's intolerable, it's monstrous to see that."
Israel began its offensive earlier this month, citing a surge in rocket attacks launched from Hamas militants in Gaza.
More than a thousand Palestinians have been killed, most of them civilians.
Thirty-five Israeli soldiers and three civilians have also died.
