It played out like a Hollywood chase scene. A suspect led police in California on a high-speed chase through Malibu late Wednesday. It all started when an off-duty FBI agent saw an attempted kidnapping outside a gym. That's when shots were fired and the chase began. The suspect plowed through construction cones. You can see the bullet holes in the BMW he's driving. Eventually, the suspect abandons the car next to these Malibu cliffs and runs for the hills. Literally. He tumbles, appears injured, and later he seems to abandon the gun he's carrying, too. Finally, he just sits, maybe injured, maybe just resigned to being caught. Police wait above -- and below -- the cliffs. During the standoff, some residents had to wait to get back to their cars. SOUNDBITE: AREA RESIDENT MICHON PINNIX "I was just taking a bike ride earlier today and I parked my car down here at Malibu Bluff Park and when I came back it was secluded and I've been stuck here for a couple of hours." It was dark before officers slowly moved in and took the suspect into custody. He was airlifed to UCLA Medical Center. The would-be kidnap victim outside the gym was also taken to a hospital. Her condition was not immediately clear.
