TV AND WEB RESTRICTIONS~*NONE**~ ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Renewed Israeli shelling of Gaza on Sunday (August 3) killed at least two Palestinians one day after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military would go on fighting Hamas in the Strip. Netanyahu said Hamas would pay an "intolerable price" if it continued to attack Israel. In the Gazan city of Jabaliya residents said two people from one family had been killed in one of the early morning strikes that destroyed their home. Women and children were also wounded. Relatives and neighbours buried the dead. The Jabaliya victims, and at least 30 more in Rafah, pushed the Gaza death toll given by Palestinian officials to 1,708, most of them civilians. Israel confirmed 64 soldiers died in combat, while Palestinian shelling has also killed three civilians in Israel. More than 30 tunnels and dozens of access shafts have been unearthed and were being blown up, the main goal of the Israeli air and naval operation that began on July 8. Israel declared dead a soldier feared abducted by Hamas militants and repositioned its troops in the Gaza Strip, telling many residents they could return home after entire neighbourhoods were devastated in nearly a month of fighting. Israel began its offensive against Gaza following a surge of cross-border rocket salvoes by Hamas and other guerrillas, later escalating into ground incursions.
