Ukrainian forces gear up in the east. The video, which can not be independently verified by Reuters comes amid reports that nine people were killed in the region Sunday. The army sets up check points, digs trenches and fire at what is said to be a separatist target.. This comes as those in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk prepare for a siege by Ukrainian forces determined to gain control. They're stocking up with flour and canned goods they hope will hold them over. Some residents say they have nowhere to run. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) ALEXEI, DONETSK RESIDENT, SAYING: "There was bombing yesterday. Everyone who could escape, ran away somewhere. And me, I'm old, I am sixty years old, where can I run?" (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) ALEXEI, DONETSK RESIDENT, SAYING: "Well, we have no light, the fridge is dead, the meat is spoiling. So I've salted it. Well, you can eat it, but the quality is different." One man blames the newly elected Ukrainian president for inciting the conflict. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) VICTOR, LOCAL RESIDENT, SAYING: "I am expressing my opinion. All the people are against Poroshenko. Why did he start all that?" Pro-Russian separatists took over the city's administration offices in mid-April and still hold a firm grip on the city. Kiev is stepping up its offensive following the downing of a Malaysian airliner that killed everyone aboard, which both sides blame on each other.
