Rio starts countdown to 2016 Olympics

With just two years until the start of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the city lights up the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil's colors. Elly Park reports.

The two-year countdown has officially begun in Rio de Janeiro that will host the 2016 Olympic Games. To mark the occasion its most iconic symbol, the Christ the Redeemer statue, was lit up in Brazil's colors green yellow and blue. The host city also released its new Olympic look, that reflects the Brazilian identity explains brand manager Beth Lula. SOUNDBITE: RIO 2016 ORGANIZING COMMITTEE BRAND MANAGER, BETH LULA, SAYING (Portuguese): "It is very Brazilian, very colourful, very diverse. And it also has the icons of Rio de Janeiro which I think all Brazilians would recognize. But because Olympic soccer will be played in four cities; Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia and Salvador, we decided to pay tribute to these cities and designs icons for those cities so they could be represented and feel proud to be a part of the event." The brightly colored Rio de Janeiro logo features notable landmarks including Carnival's sambadrome, Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer statue.
